1 Typically it is astringent, it is bitter and it is cooling in nature what we call Tanda Mizaj/ In Ayurveda it’s called Sheeta Virya and it also is a bit sweetish in taste.

2 . So it’s used in the past in the form of a cooling agent very suitable for summertimes

3. It was used in toxic conditions,

4 . In conditions where it’s excess bleeding per rectum like bleeding piles even we say Rakta pittam which is like bleeding disorders where the platelet levels are dangerously low even up to less than 50,000 platelets

5 .Used primarily to make sure that burning urination is much relieved.

6 .People utilize it even for burning sensations in the body and the simple method is to rub this flower of lotus in milk and apply it to the burning sensation area.

7 . It was and is still a practice to try to rub the prakanda [ which is rhizome] and also the flower in milk and made as a paste and consumed internally –dosage 10 to 20 grams . It really ‘’ cools down ‘’ the extra body heat , menopause related hot flushes , insomnia – starting trouble of sleep .

DISCLAIMER / NB — and of course, needless to say, the cooling effect has to be taken care in consideration. If you have a running nose, if you have the flu or you have phlegm and the cough we are not using cooling property/ cool potency medicines like this .
