Kalaripayattu which originated in South India comes from the
Sanskrit words 'kalari' which means 'place or battlefield' and
payattu' which means 'to exercise in arms or practice'.

Kalaripayattu is one of the oldest martial arts in the world and draws inspiration from the raw power and strength of the majestic animal forms like that of the lion, tiger, elephant, wild boar and crocodile.

This art could have originated in the jungles when hunters observed the fighting techniques of various animals.

Shrouded in deep mystery and secrecy, Kalaripayattu was taught by the masters in total isolation and away from prying eyes. Fitness and stamina is taught with precision and sharpness.
